Brad Grant was born two months prematurely.
He spent his first week in a NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) and went home at 4lbs 8oz. At three months of age he experienced a traumatic event that led to 12 days in a coma, and brain injury.
Throughout the years Brad has experienced additional medical issues, and is diagnosed as having autoimmune Hashimoto’s Disease. Earlier this year, more unusual symptoms appeared, and he was also diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
Brad underwent surgery in August to have his thyroid gland removed, and his family continues to incur ongoing medical expenses in addition to everything up to this point.
As many of us can relate, Brad is a delightful 17-year-old who loves to play Magic and Fortnight! He is always smiling, and is still going to school every day — even though he goes home and immediately goes to bed. He also tries to save up his energy on the weekends so that he can come and play Magic.
Brad’s family has been through a whirlwind of medical uncertainty through the years. In the past they have turned down offers of assistance as they felt that others needed it more than they did. They have supportive and helpful friends and family by their sides. The friends and family are still there helping, however, the medical expenses are growing overwhelming.
